Carlotta Cardana hosted a teams meeting with us whereby she spoke of the varying commissioned work she has created in varies places around the world, varying form London to New York to Tokyo.
The expanse and depth her work has seen her cover in terms of cultural differences across the globe, I found most impressive. The body of work that stuck with me the most was titled 'Kabukicho Nights'. This documents the stories of male 'Hosts' in Japan, whereby wealthy women will pay to be in their company. The concept of it all, I found very saddening, as some of the women will attend these clubs as it is the only time in their busy lives, men are nice to them, despite the hosts taking on characters of the 'ideal boyfriends' because its their job to do so.
