Emily Ryalls
The work 'You Can't Sit Here' produced by Emily Ryallls, a photographer from Wakefield, addressing the perpetuating hostility city landscapes pose to people, which are built for people. You are able to seek the struggles further imposed on homeless people, not having many flat surfaces to sleep upon throughout a city landscape.
As someone who has been experimenting with performative work recently, this was instantly a body of work that I had an evoking effect on me. Instantly, from the title and photographs, you get a feel for the narrative of the work. It is symbolic of modern tropes of creating restrictive seating spaces, keeping not only abled people, but further making the disabled and homeless strive further away from accessible city landscapes.
Ryall's work inspires me to want to continue to create performative work in the future, and potentially venture into open spaces to push my creative abilities.
